How to Make Your Own Delicious Sun Tea

Summer is finally here. That means going to the pool, having barbecues, and sipping cold iced tea on the porch. But did you know you can make your own iced tea by letting it sit out in the sun? Well you can! Some say this is actually the most delicious way to make iced tea. It’s called sun tea and it’s really easy to make! Here’s how to make your own delicious sun tea.

Make a Large Batch of Sun Tea

Make a large batch so that everyone can come and enjoy the sun tea with you. You can invite your family and friends over to sit on the porch and enjoy it with you. So fill up a large water dispenser that will hold plenty of tea for everyone. The water doesn’t need to be hot. The water can be cold or room temperature. Some people think that tea bags only work if the water is boiling, that’s a common misconception. Tea bags will release their flavor regardless of water temperature.

Drop in Your Choice of Tea Bags

For the best tasting sun tea use 8 tea bags per gallon of water. This will help so that the tea isn’t too strong, or too weak. You can use any sort of blend that you want! You can use black, green, peach, or hibiscus tea. Try all sorts of different blends and see which ones you like the most. You can really get creative here.

Put the Tea in the Sun

Putting the tea in the sun helps the tea bags to release their flavor faster. The amount of time that you need leave the tea in the sun varies on multiple factors. The temperature outside, how big of a batch you’re making, and the kind of tea you’re using are some of the factors you need to think about. Generally, 2-3 hours of time in the sun will do the trick.

Sweeten the Tea

Taste your tea and make sure that it tastes how you like it. Then sweeten the tea if you choose to. Some people like their tea unsweetened so it’s up to you! Sugar can sometimes sink to the bottom and not mix into the tea very well. Instead try using honey or agave. This sweeteners mix in easily in the tea and give it a nice sweet flavor. Add as much or as little as you want.

Add Lemons

Lemons add a delicious citrus flavor perfect for Summer. Slice up some lemons and let their flavor infuse with the rest of the tea in the jug. Or you can put lemon slices directly in your own glass with some ice.

Summing Up

This is an easy recipe that anybody can make. All you need is water, tea bags, honey, lemons, and sun. The result is a delicious and refreshing beverage that you can sip to cool down in the hot Summer. Sit back and relax with your family and friends and drink some homemade, delicious, refreshing sun tea.
