Review of the GrayBunny Caged Tube Bird Feeder

The GrayBunny Caged Tube Bird Feeder is an affordable bird feeder that was designed to attract a variety of small birds including finches, chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, juncos and more.  This feeder makes a great gift idea for children and adults alike.  The steel cage was designed to allow small birds in while keeping squirrels out.  I’ll look in detail about whether it is indeed squirrel proof or not below.

There is 4 well spaced feeding ports designed to allow multiple birds to feed simultaneously.  The enclosed seed housing keeps up to 2 1/2 cups of fresh seeds dry.  This helps to prevent mold buildup which can be very harmful for the birds.

The clear housing makes it easy to see when it’s time to add more seeds.  Simply unlatch the lid and then raise it to fill.  The cage is made to be chew-proof and to last a lifetime.

What the Customers Had to Say

As of this writing there were 140 customer reviews and 5 answered questions on Amazon.  I’ve read through the reviews and answered questions, and then condensed the result into this report.  I hope that this helps make your bird feeder shopping experience go a bit faster and easier.

Size

The GrayBunny Caged Tube Bird Feeder is a small bird feeder.  The dimensions are 10 x 6.5 x 6.5 inches with a weight of only 0.84 pounds.  Make sure to consider this small size when ordering.  Some customers such as this one were surprised by the small size, “I like it – though smaller in size than I thought.”  If you do want a small sized feeder this one is very low priced and may suit your needs fine.

Squirrel Proof? Or Not?

Most of the bird feeders that I’ve reviewed are advertised as squirrel proof.  Unfortunately the squirrels did not read this, because they have managed to get into most of the squirrel proof bird feeders.  I must report that this is also the case with the Gray Bunny Caged Tube Bird Feeder.  Even though it is supposed to be squirrel proof, customers have reported that there squirrels have managed to get to the feed.  Here one customer reports this, “Sadly, this didn’t last a week against our squirrels. I came home from work one day to find it empty with a hole in the side. I am not sure how they did it, but they broke out the green feeder and the plastic tube.”  Another customers said, “I have a super smart squirrel here.  I saw him sitting on top of feeder with top filler door open while scooping food into his mouth.  On this day the feeder lost it’s claim as Squirrel proof.  Other than that all is well.”  And another, “Unfortunately, it is not squirrel proof. I’ve had it less than 24 hours and the squirrels have devoured all my seed.

Some other customers did report that it has kept their squirrels out, but as far as it being 100% squirrel proof, this is not the case according to several customers.

GrayBunny Caged Tube Bird Feeder Conclusion

The GrayBunny Caged Tube Bird Feeder is an economical, nice little bird feeder. Though it is advertised as squirrel resistant, unfortunately some customers had to say otherwise when their squirrels were able to get the food.  However, this feeder does keep out larger birds.  That could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on what kinds of birds that you want to feed.
