Delicious Ways to Use Your Leftover Candy Canes from the Holidays

You will have hundreds of leftover candy canes if you’re anything like me. I always get so excited to decorate my Christmas tree with candy canes that I forget to ask myself if I can eat that many. In fact, I still have some leftover candy canes from 2017. Although candy canes last for a really long time you might as well put them to good use and make something out of them. Here are some delicious ways to use your leftover candy canes from the holidays.

Ways to Use Leftover Candy Canes

Minty Mallows

Crush up some leftover candy canes and roll marshmallows in them. You can get the marshmallow wet to make it sticky, then coat the entire thing in candy cane pieces. Plop your minty mallow in your hot chocolate for a minty, sweet treat. You will have a delicious cup of hot cocoa that will take away that Winter chill.

Minty Krispies

Rice Krispy treats are super easy and always a crowd pleaser. Kids and adults will love a peppermint twist on a classic treat. Crush up leftover candy canes and gently fold them into your cereal and marshmallow mixture. Try as best as you can to get the candy cane pieces to be evenly distributed throughout your cereal. Then just put all that goodness into a pan to harden. This is actually really good if you dunk the treat in hot cocoa too.

Candy Cane Sugar Cookies

Mix up your favorite sugar cookie dough and crush up some leftover candy canes. Then roll your dough in the crushed candy cane powder. Now all you need to do is bake the cookies as you would normally! You’ll have a minty sweet treat from the sugary goodness of the cookie, and the sweet mint from the candy cane.

Candy Cane Fudge

Imagine the decadent taste of fudge with the minty kick of a candy cane. It’s a match made in heaven. Make chocolate or white fudge then crush your leftover candy canes on top before it cools. Personally, I like the idea of having rich chocolate fudge with candy cane pieces on top to contrast it. That’s just me! If you also love a good chocolate and mint pairing you’ll love chocolate fudge with candy canes on top. Of course, you can always make chocolate and white fudge and have them battle it out to see which one wins.

Whipped Minty Cream

This is such an easy thing to do with leftover candy canes! Crush up your candy canes by hand or in a food processor and mix it in with whipped cream. Then spread the whipped cream on whatever you like! Top off some chocolate cake, dip a chocolate bar in it, or put a dollop in your hot chocolate. So easy and delicious!

Summing Up

There are tons of ways to use leftover candy canes. Don’t let your candy canes sit around all year until you use them to decorate your Christmas tree. Try one of these ways to use leftover candy canes and you’ll be really glad you thought outside the box.
