The Suncast Powerwind PW100 uses a rechargeable battery and foot pedal to rewind a garden hose. It can reduce hand-cranking, but it still needs a clear hose route, correct setup and battery care. It should not be confused with water-powered rewind reels or treated as a machine that can pull a snagged hose free.
PW100 capacity and included features
Suncast’s PW100 product page specifies up to 100 feet of standard 5/8-inch vinyl hose. It lists a 12-volt sealed lead-acid battery and charger, a leader hose, a hose guide, a backup manual crank, two landscape stakes and a front storage bin. Check the actual package before purchase, especially for used units.
The capacity refers to the specified hose type. A heavier or bulkier hose may behave differently, so confirm compatibility rather than applying the capacity to any 100-foot hose. The main watering hose and the short leader hose serve different purposes.
Where battery rewind is useful
Powerwind may suit a watering station where repeated hand winding is inconvenient and the hose can be brought back along an unobstructed route. Before choosing it, check whether you have a suitable operating surface, room to approach the pedal and a place to charge and store the battery according to the instructions.
A motor does not remove the need to manage the hose. A route around chair legs, sharp corners or dense planting still needs attention. Someone seeking a reel for commercial work should note that the PW100 manual describes a residential garden-hose product.
Use controlled rewind
The PW100 owner’s manual directs users to bring the hose end to the reel before rewinding and to stop if the hose or accessory catches. Operate the pedal with a shoe, keep hands away from moving parts and keep the crank closed during battery operation. Do not wedge the pedal down or stand or sit on the housing.
Install the unit using the approved securing method for its location. If it shifts, jams or makes abnormal noises, release the pedal and stop. Repeatedly driving the motor against an obstruction is not a solution to poor hose routing.
Battery life is measured in use, not seasons
Suncast’s Powerwind FAQ gives about 15 rewinds between charges as a typical figure, with variation from hose type and length, surface and temperature. That is not a promise of one charge per summer. Avoid complete discharge and follow the charging instructions for the specified battery and charger.
The FAQ advises removing and safely storing the battery when the reel will be unused for more than 30 days. The manual warns against airtight battery storage. Keep the battery and charging equipment away from children and use the manufacturer’s storage and handling directions.
If the motor will not run
Start with the ordinary checks in Suncast’s troubleshooting guidance: correct battery installation and charge, and a properly closed lid. If the reel still fails, stop and contact support with the model number and symptoms. Do not defeat lid or pedal safety controls, open the motor for improvised repairs, or spray lubricant into electrical components.
The backup crank provides a documented alternative when appropriate under the manual. It is not a reason to keep using a reel with broken parts or a trapped hose.
Water connections and winter storage
Shut off the water and relieve pressure before examining accessible leaking connections. Verify the correct washer or replacement part rather than overtightening damaged fittings. Drain and winterize the water path before freezing conditions, following the reel’s instructions along with the separate battery-storage directions.
