Save the Earth: Things You Can Do to Reduce Waste and Help the Planet

Coral reefs are dying, forests are getting chopped down, and oceans are filling up with plastic. It seems as though the world’s problems are too big to help. Some people think that they won’t make a difference so why bother? Well, doing small things can actually make a big difference for the world. If everyone tried to do something small to save the Earth, we’d make significant progress. Here are 6 things you can do to reduce waste and help the planet.

How to Help Save the Earth

Recycle

It’s not hard. In fact, this is one of the easiest ways to help save the Earth. All you need to do is put certain plastics and aluminum in a different bin. Recycling and reusing is a great way to reduce waste. Don’t forget to recycle all your paper as well. According to the EPA, if an office building of 7,000 people recycled all of their paper for a year, it would be the same as taking 400 cars off the road.

Use Less Water

Start noticing how much water you’re using. Make cutbacks if you can. Turn the faucet off while you brush your teeth instead of letting it run. Take shorter, cooler showers. Make sure that all of your plumbing is efficient so you aren’t wasting water. Fix leaky faucets, toilets, or pipes. Consider drinking tap water so that you don’t have to buy bottled water. That will cut down on waste as well. This is a small way you can help to save the Earth.

Use Alternate Transportation

Think of all the places you drive to. Do you really need to drive there? Is it around the corner? Consider walking or riding your bike to nearby places. Each car that is not on the road will help the save the Earth. By walking or riding your bike instead of driving, you will also get some exercise to help keep you healthy. So it’s good for you and for the planet. Consider using public transportation when you can to cut down on car use.

Make Your Own Compost

Instead of throwing away everything and filling up landfills, make your own compost. There’s no need to fill up landfills with valuable items that could create rich compost for your garden. Old produce, egg shells, vegetable peels, fruit cores, and rinds will all make excellent compost. You might be intimidated at the thought but making your own compost is not very hard. In fact, nature does most of the work for you. This will significantly cut down on waste to help save the Earth.

Do Your Errands in the Same Day

Instead of grocery shopping on Saturday and returning your library book on Wednesday, do it on the same day. This will decrease the emissions you are giving off. Save all your errands to do on the same day so that you aren’t driving around more than you actually need to. This will also save you time because you’ll get everything done on the same day, freeing up your other days. It might take a while to adjust to this, but it’s a great way to help save the Earth.

Visit National Parks

By visiting National Parks, you will gain a stronger appreciation for the beauty that the world has to offer. You’ll also start to realize and understand the importance that your role can play in saving the National Parks. You can make a difference in the quality of the National Parks by picking up trash along trails, and not feeding wildlife. This is a great way to help save the Earth because it also means you get to see some of the most beautiful places in the country.

Summing Up

If you want to make a difference in the world, you can. Start by doing some of these things to help save the Earth. The world would be a much better place if everyone did these small things to protect it. So take a look at your life and see where you can reduce waste to help save the Earth and protect it from further damage caused by humans.
