As of this writing, there are 2,263 customer comments and 154 answered questions for the Little Tikes 2-in-1 Snug ‘n Secure Swing. I’ve read the customer feedback, and then condensed the results into this review. I hope that this helps when shopping for a swing set.
The Little Tikes 2-in-1 Snug ‘n Secure Swing features a t-bar and an adjustable shoulder straps. The t-bar rotates so that you can easily load and unload your child. It is durable and great for indoor and outdoor swings. Keep in mind that this swing does not come with anchors. The t-bar and straps can easily be removed from the swing once your child outgrows it. This swing will hold up to 50 pounds. It is made in the USA.
Keep in mind that in 2001, there was a Little Tikes swing recall. It was stated that about 250,000 swings were recalled because the buckles on the swing were breaking and the shoulder restraint straps were pulling out of the back of the seat. Because this swing recall was in 2001, this problem should be fixed by now. However, as of 2017 there was a Little Tikes pink swing recall. The Little Tikes pink swings, also called Little Tikes toddler swings, have been recalled because they were breaking. The Little Tikes pink swing is different from the Little Tikes 2-in-1 Snug ‘n Secure Swing. All Little Tikes blue baby swings are not recalled as of this writing. The adjustable straps help with getting children secured in properly. Here is one of the comments on the straps, “Adjustable straps help with hanging on uneven branches/strapping.”
Rain Drains Prevent Wet Bottoms
Most likely, we’ve all sat down on a wet bench or wet swing at one time or another. The experience is not the most pleasant, especially on a cool day when you have to walk around with a wet bottom or change your clothes. The designer of this swing made sure that this wouldn’t happen to the baby’s who use this swing. There are drain holes in the swing that allow rainwater to get out. Here is what one parent had to say about the drainage holes, “Has a drainage hole in the bottom – great for any outdoor item – so that the rain water does not accumulate.”
Not the Best for Wiggly Children
Some parents felt that this swing isn’t safe for children who wiggle a lot. A customer explained, “It’s Ok for non-wiggly children. When I unbuckle the shoulder straps before moving the red bar, my child immediately straighten her body and reached for me. This caused her to practically slide out of the seat. Had I not been fully focused on her, she would have slipped straight out of the seat and fallen to the ground. For our swing set, Swing-N-Slide Playsets Pine Bluff Play Set, the swing is about 3.5 ft off the ground. I would prefer to avoid that fall so I will be returning this and ordering a standard playground bucket seat. The swing was intact when it arrived. I was able to adjust it to hang straight. If my children were not so wiggly, I would keep the swing, but it just won’t work for us.”
You May Need More Rope and/or Chain
If you plan on using this baby swing on a swing set, branch or ceiling that is low to the ground, you should be fine. But if you will be using it on anything higher than 5 foot, you may want to purchase some extra rope or chain. Here is one of the comments pertaining to this issue, “If you have 5 ft high ceilings this is gonna be perfect for you! For everyone else, get some rope or a chain too.”
Carabiners Not Included
There are no carabiners included with this swing. Many customers commented that carabiners worked better and held more weight than the included metal parts that come with the swing. Here is one of the comments, “My daughter loves her swing. She seems very comfortable and relaxed when in it. The metal parts that attach to the eyelets of the swing set are very very difficult to install. After installation I removed the swing and re-installed it using climbing carabiners I had laying around. They are rated for way more weight than my daughter and allow me to quickly disconnect the swing and bring it into the garage so it doesn’t bake in the sun.”
Does Not Come with Eye Hooks
This swing does not come with eye hooks. A lot of the customers who bought this and left comments, used this swing on a ceiling in the house or on a front porch. If you intend to use it that way, make sure to purchase eye hooks so that you can mount it. Here is one of the comments about the lack of eye hooks. The customer explained, “I only gave 4 stars because I thought it came with all installation hardware, but it didn’t come with the eye screws to hang the hooks on. If you’re going to buy this swing and install into a wooden beam, make sure you get eye screws. If you’re going to hang this swing from an existing swing set, you should be good as the hooks are included.”
The rope that comes with this swing had a lot of complaints from customers. Here is one of the many rope complaints, “The swing itself is of decent construction and my son loves swinging in the seat. However the rope is constructed of cheap polypropylene material. The provided rope is already showing signs of significant deterioration with a couple months of use. If you have your playset in a sunny area expect UV deterioration to set in quickly. The tragedy of it, is that you can’t tell by just looking at the rope how much strength it’s lost. The rope included with this product is not designed to last longer than the time it takes one child to out grow this seat (2 years tops). If you have an expanding family this is not the product for you…if it’s for your last kid, it’ll probably do the trick. If you plan on using it for a while just keep your ears open for a snap, thud, and crying.”
Reports of Buckle Mechanism Missing
There were comments left about the buckle part being missing. Here is one of those comments, “I was excited to put this swing up today. When testing the buckle, I found that both buckles did not engage, they just slip out of the female part of the mechanism. Thank goodness we did not install first. My husband had the idea to go through the one star reviews and sure enough, others have gotten swings missing the whole buckle mechanism.”
The majority of customers commented that this swing was easy to install. Here is one of those comments, “It installed quickly and easily (without any tools) onto my existing swing set. I just simply unclipped one of the existing swings and replaced it with the Little Tikes swing. It’s easy to use and my grandson loves it!”
