The Best Things to Grow in a Greenhouse: Cool and Warm Season Crops

Greenhouses are one of the greatest innovations for people who love growing things. You don’t have to be limited anymore because of what the weather is doing. Now you can grow your favorite flowers, vegetables, or fruits, all year long. Here is a list of the cool and warm season crops that are best to grow in a greenhouse,

Cool Season Crops

Cool season vegetables are vegetables that can withstand cooler temperatures and don’t do well in extreme heat. You can grow these vegetables in your greenhouse during the winter to prevent them from freezing, but you don’t need to heat your greenhouse because these crops do well in the cold.

Lettuce. Lettuce is a great thing to grow in a greenhouse because it’s easy to grow. You don’t need to keep it really warm, just keep it from freezing and it’ll do just fine. Grow your own lettuce and you can have all the fresh salads you want, even in the Winter!

Broccoli. Broccoli is another cool season plant that does great in cooler weather. You’ll be surprised at how well broccoli can do without a lot of heat. The greenhouse will keep the crops warm enough to grow, even without extra heating.

Peas. Peas are a delicious and nutritious thing to snack on. You can grow your own peas in your greenhouse for an awesome snack year round.

Carrots. If your kids don’t really like green vegetables, grow some carrots. A lot of kids don’t seem to mind carrots when it comes to vegetables. Carrots will grow easily in your greenhouse and your kids can have fun helping you pull them up from the ground.

Warm Season Crops

Warm season vegetables need to be in a lot of heat. If they freeze they will die. These plants will need to be in a heated greenhouse to thrive. If you can get your greenhouse heated, you can enjoy warm season vegetables even in the dead of Winter.

Tomatoes. Tomatoes typically need to be planted in late May or early June to make sure that they don’t freeze. You don’t need to worry about that with a greenhouse. You can plant tomatoes in your heated greenhouse in December if that’s something you want to do.

Peppers. Peppers make a great snack because they’re nutritious and sweet. They are often a kid favorite because they have that little sweetness to them. Try planting red, yellow, or orange peppers in your heated greenhouse.

Squash. Squash are colorful and delicious. You can have them whenever you want now that you have a greenhouse to put in them. No need to worry about the frost.

Watermelon. This Summer favorite can now be enjoyed in the middle of Winter. You can brighten up a cold and dreary Winter day by enjoying some watermelon grown in your greenhouse.

Summing Up

These crops can provide your family with delicious and nutritious snacks all year round. You don’t have to worry about the weather influencing your crops when you have a greenhouse. For cool season crops, make sure your greenhouse doesn’t get too hot, or into subzero temperatures. These crops can withstand low temperatures. For warm season crops, keep the greenhouse heated to ensure that it never gets below freezing. You can have your favorite crops whenever you please. What a way to live!
