Being out in the great outdoors isn’t just beautiful, it can actually benefit your health. Nature is peaceful and relaxing and being in it will actually make you feel better. Whether you’re going on a hike, or simply going on a nice Fall walk, you will start to notice some benefits. They might not be drastic or immediate, but being in nature benefits your health all the same. Here are some surprising ways that being in nature benefits your health.
Nature Reduces Stress
Being in nature reduces stress levels. This is because of its relaxing and tranquil characteristics. The sounds and smells of nature will literally help you to calm down and get rid of the stressors in your life. Taking notice of how the leaves change colors, or how a creek sounds will make you slow down. Go up to the mountains to meditate or just go out into nature to appreciate the scenery. You’ll feel better as you appreciate the world around you and let go of stressful feelings.
Being out and about in nature is great exercise. If hiking isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry about it! Just go for a walk on an easy trail and you’ll still see benefits. Fresh air is good for you lungs and it’ll get your blood pumping. It’s good for your heart too because your heart rate should get elevated as you walk around in nature. Make your walk brisk to challenge yourself, or just take it slow and take deep breaths. Fill your lungs up with the sweet, cool air that the outdoors has to offer. You’ll feel alive!
Dirt isn’t always a bad thing. In fact, being around dirt and nature can actually improve your immune system. This is because you are exposed to different germs and pathogens which will actually strengthen your immune system over time. People that are constantly avoiding germs and are always staying in a protective bubble, or never go outside, get sick more often. Get outside and pick up pine cones, gather river rocks, and pick flowers. Your immune system will thank you.

Believe it or not, the solution to your seasonal allergies might just be to spend more time outside. This is because oftentimes your immune system overreacts to certain stimuli like pollen. So whenever your body is in contact with pollen it freaks out and gives you a runny nose, itchy eyes, and a puffy face. Your first reaction is to probably avoid the outdoors but that will just give your body more opportunity to react poorly when it comes in contact with those stimuli again. Start slow and force yourself to spend a little more time outside. Your body will adjust and will eventually stop having such terrible reactions to those stimuli. Of course, this doesn’t happen 100% of the time, and there are exceptions. However, if you love the outdoors but have bad allergies continue being outdoors to see if your allergies improve over time.
Nature is beautiful and it can help us with so many things. It can help us appreciate everything around us, appreciate wildlife, and nature benefits your health. Being outside will help you feel more relaxed, help your immune system, give you some great exercise, and help with seasonal allergies. Not to mention it can be breathtakingly beautiful.
