The ENO DoubleNest is worth considering for roomy casual lounging and a modular camping setup. Its main tradeoff is that the hammock is only one part of an overnight system: suspension, weather protection, insect protection and insulation all affect the final cost and pack weight.
This is a review of documented specifications and practical buying considerations, not a new hands-on test. Current manufacturer information was checked in October 2026. Older DoubleNest versions and retailer bundles may differ.
Current DoubleNest specifications
The ENO product page lists a 9-foot-6-inch by 6-foot-4-inch body, a 19-ounce weight and a 400-pound capacity. Materials include FreeWave 70D nylon and aluminum hardware. The body has triple-stitched seams and an attached stuff sack with a small internal pocket.
Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results. The older dimensions in early reviews should not be used to identify every current DoubleNest. Check the actual model label and listing, especially for used gear.
What the extra width does—and does not—provide
The wider body gives a solo user room to adjust position and can accommodate shared sitting when the complete setup is within its limits. “Double” does not guarantee that two people will sleep comfortably all night. Their movement and weight distribution interact in one gathered-end hammock.
If overnight comfort is the goal, assess body length, your height, preferred position and the suspension arrangement. Try the setup near home before committing to a trip. Two individual sleeping hammocks may be more practical than treating one double hammock as a two-person bed.
Budget for the complete setup
Check exactly what is included in the purchase. Do not assume tree straps are part of a bare hammock listing; bundles can add them. Carabiners on the hammock are not a replacement for suitable suspension and anchors.
- Day use: the hammock, compatible suspension or a suitable stand, and an allowed location may be enough.
- Rain: plan a tarp and its lines, with coverage matched to the occupied hammock.
- Insects: use an appropriate bug net where needed; pulling fabric over yourself is not equivalent.
- Cool conditions: evaluate bottom insulation as well as a top quilt or sleeping bag.
Compare the weight and price of that full kit with alternatives. A hammock-only weight cannot tell you whether the complete shelter is lighter than the tent you already own.
Setup, inspection and care
Follow the ENO instructions for your hammock and suspension. ENO specifies hanging no higher than 18 inches above the ground, checking anchors and clearing hazards below. Do not treat the published capacity as a target for jumping or swinging, or assume strong fabric compensates for a weak support.
Check permission before attaching to trees. Some parks prohibit it even with straps. For example, Rock Creek Park requires a freestanding setup. Where tree suspension is allowed, use compatible protective straps and observe the site’s rules.
Inspect fabric, end connections, stitching and suspension before use. Stop using damaged equipment. Follow the care label, dry the hammock before storage and avoid leaving it exposed outdoors indefinitely. Triple stitching is a construction feature, not a promise that a seam can never fail.
Warranty and buying decision
ENO’s current U.S. limited warranty is two years for eligible purchases from authorized sellers, with exclusions and a claim process. It is not an unconditional lifetime refund. Keep the receipt and product labels, and check the terms for your country and seller.
The DoubleNest makes sense if you value a broad lounging body, a documented accessory system and the ability to choose separate camping components. A complete camping hammock with an integrated net may be more convenient if that is what you need from the outset. A lighter or longer model may suit a different priority. Compare those specific requirements rather than relying on an unsupported star score or an “expert tested” label.
