The Amazon Basics Portable Folding Fire Pit had 101 customer comments and 18 answered questions as of this writing.  I've read through the feedback left by customers and then condensed the results here into this report.  I hope that this helps you when shopping for a fire pit.

Lightweight and Portable

Weighing in at just 17.15 pounds, this firepit is both lightweight and portable.  Customers who wished to move it around and also place it in storage were very happy with how easy it is to carry.  One customer had this to say, "For the price, this is a great fire pit. It's difficult to find a portable fire pit that is easy to transport and to store."

Great Price

This is not a very high quality fire pit, but at the same time it is priced great for what it is.  For some of the other fire pits I reviewed, they were high priced and of similar quality to this one.  So for what you get, this is a good price.

Screws May Not Line up for Assembly

There were a lot of complaints of screws not lining up to the holes right during assembly.  Here is one of the many complaints of assembly not working out as it should, "I only gave it 4 stars because I had to tighten all the screws when I received it and I had to bend part of the grill to make it fit in the hole.  You'll see what I'm talking about when you receive it.  Other than that, works great!"

Legs Fold up for Storage

A lot of people liked that the legs of this fire pit folded up for storage.  If you are wanting to take the Amazon Basics Portable Folding Fire Pit on a camping trip or picnic, you may also like that the legs fold up.  It makes it easy to store away in small places.  Here is what one customer had to say about the folding legs, "This is a nice size portable fire pit. It comes with a grate and a cover so you could use it for a fire pit or for for a grill as well. It's a nice size but the legs easily fold closed and open back up again. It's lightweight but also sturdy.  I love the folding option as you can store it for the winter or when you're not using it. Nice!"

Lots of Complaints About Wobbly Legs

The number one complaint seemed to be the fact that the legs were very wobbly.  Perhaps it's because they are made to fold.  Whatever the case is, the legs are definitely an issue.  Here are one of the many leg complaints, "My primary issue is the legs. There's a 1/4" gap on each side of the legs when inside their fitting. The legs come pre-fitted inside with horribly loose set screws. Upon tightening all of the screws, I unfolded the legs only to find what I guess you could call a "wiggle" to the 10th degree. There is no way that this pit could support any weight whatsoever as it came."

A lot of people did their own make-shift work to make the legs be more sturdy.  Here is one of many customers who improvised to fix up the legs, " I was able to remedy the issue by taking all the legs off, then putting 2 #10 1/8th inch washers on either side of each leg (16 washers total) and reinstalling the legs. The legs wiggle a lot lot less now and still fold and pin into their slots fine. Now the firepit can probably function. I'd advise any one reading this that already purchased it to attempt the maneuvers I alluded to above. It is relatively easy to do."

AmazonBasics Portable Folding Fire Pit Conclusion

The Amazon Basics Portable Folding Fire Pit is an inexpensive, portable little fire pit.  It is not heavy duty so great care should be taken to keep an eye on it at all times so that the bottom doesn't get too hot and so embers don't fly out and catch something on fire.  The top complaint for this fire pit is the wobbliness of the legs and the screws not fitting in the holes properly.  If you are wanting an inexpensive, lightweight and portable fire pit and are not expecting superior quality, this fire pit may serve the purpose fine for you.

Common Questions

Here are some top questions that I found for people considering buying an AmazonBasics Portable Folding Fire Pit.

  • chevron-circle-right
How hot does it get underneath? Can it be used on a deck or on grass?  The fire is built on the lower grate an inch or so above the surface of the pit. It gets very hot, but the legs elevate it a foot or so.  Use caution if using on flammable surfaces like decks and dry grass.  Don't leave the fire pit unattended.
