The Sunforce 82080 is an older 80-LED solar motion light with a separate solar panel. That arrangement is its most useful design distinction: you can position the lamp where illumination is needed and place the panel in a sunnier spot, within the supplied cable’s reach.

What the documentation establishes
The Sunforce 80-LED manual hosted by Home Depot describes a separate panel, ON/OFF/AUTO selection, 30-, 60- and 120-second timing settings, a test setting and low/medium/high detection-distance control. It specifies an initial three-day charge with the light off, followed by AUTO operation. Its ON setting provides only a limited period of continuous illumination.
The manual calls for outdoor panel placement with maximum sun exposure and identifies rechargeable Ni-MH AA batteries. It instructs users to match replacement battery specifications and polarity. It also says that extending the panel cable voids the stated warranty. Follow the document supplied with your exact unit if its instructions differ.
Why the separate panel matters
A light mounted below an eave does not necessarily have a useful charging position directly above it. A separate panel gives you another placement option, but check the cable route before ordering. Allow for bends and a secure route that does not create a trip hazard or become pinched by a door.
The earlier review quoted a 15-foot cable, 900 lumens and a 30-foot, 180-degree detection area. Those numbers should be confirmed for the exact version being offered rather than assumed from the 80-LED name. LED count alone does not establish usable illumination at the ground.
Charging in cloudy weather
The manual allows for charging in indirect light but recommends optimizing sunlight. That does not mean shaded installation or persistent cloudy weather will provide the same runtime as a sunny site. The Department of Energy notes that solar generation varies with available sunlight.
For an existing installation, compare performance after good charging weather with performance after several poor days. Repeated triggering and longer illumination settings also use the stored energy. Test your actual walking route after dark instead of treating a quoted maximum sensor range as a guarantee.
Maintenance and purchasing an older unit
Inspect the light, panel cable and mounting before use. A cracked housing, damaged connector or missing instructions deserves attention before installation. Do not substitute disposable batteries or a different rechargeable chemistry merely because the cells fit.
A used light may need support or parts that were not relevant when the original review was written. Confirm their availability and the seller’s current return terms. The previous anecdote about operation in extreme cold was not a controlled test and should not determine suitability for your climate.
Verdict
The separate-panel design is worth considering when the best lighting position is shaded.
