Directions for Making Your Own Pickles

Have Clean Jars

Easy peasy! Wash your jars and make sure the lids are clean. If you’re not planning on canning your pickles, you don’t need to do anything else to your jars. Canning your pickles is a whole other ballgame.

Cut the Cucumbers

Cut your cucumbers the way you want your pickles. You can cut them into spears or circles. Cut them crinkle cut or straight edged. Whatever your pickle heart desires.

Add the Spices

This recipe makes two pint jars, so divide the spices between the two jars. All you need to do is dump the spices in the jar.

Add the Cucumbers

Pack the cucumbers into the jar tightly but not so tightly that the brine cannot fit into the jar.

Bring the Brine to a Boil

Bring the vinegar, water, and salt to a rolling boil. Pour the boiling brine over the cucumbers in the jars. There might be some brine leftover, that’s ok!

Screw on Lids

Put the lids on the jars and screw them on tight.

Cool and Refrigerate

Let the jars cool to room temperature then put them in the refrigerator. Pickles in the refrigerator will last several weeks.

Let the Pickles Pickle

Let the pickles pickle for at least 48 hours. The longer they pickle, the better they taste. For the best tasting pickle, let them sit in the refrigerator for several days before you dig into them. They’ll have a great vinegar taste and be crunchy and crisp. Delicious!

Summing Up

Making your own pickles is simple and delicious. All you really need to do is dump a bunch of ingredients in a jar and then you’ll have pickles! It doesn’t get easier than that. The longer the pickles stay in the fridge, the better they’ll taste. You can try eating your pickles at different days to see which day it tastes the best. You’ll know for the future how many days to let the pickles sit so that they will be the tastiest. If you’re a pickle fan, this is the recipe for you. Create a large storage and have pickles whenever you want. Use pickles in recipes, make some relish, or munch on them right out of the jar. You definitely won’t be sorry that you made them. Your whole family will enjoy these easy, delicious pickles.
