The GARDENA 1975 Aquazoom is an older adjustable oscillating sprinkler for rectangular areas. Its useful distinction is adjustable width as well as reach, but current Aquazoom listings should not automatically be treated as specifications for this model. Which Aquazoom is this?
GARDENA’s official legacy page identifies article 1975-20 as the Comfort Aquazoom 350/2 and marks it discontinued. The page also provides links to instructions and spare parts. This is the model reference used here; an Aquazoom with another article number needs its own documentation.
The manufacturer’s listed area is 28–350 square meters, approximately 301–3,767 square feet. Listed reach is 7–21 meters, roughly 23–69 feet, with adjustable width of 4–17 meters, roughly 13–56 feet. These are published model specifications, not measurements from a test in our yard.
Do not multiply every maximum dimension together and expect that rectangle to receive uniform water. The maximum stated area and adjustment limits describe different aspects of the product’s performance. Your available supply, hose arrangement and conditions determine the pattern you can actually use.
Where the rectangular pattern makes sense
A reasonably open rectangular lawn is the straightforward application for this design. Width adjustment can help fit a narrower area, while sweep adjustment helps control the ends of the pattern. Obstacles, corners and curved boundaries can still require a different position or more than one setup.
Measure the planting before buying an older unit. The minimum useful pattern matters as much as its maximum reach. If narrowing the spray still wets a wall or path, the sprinkler may not fit that location well.
Set it up and observe a complete sweep
Place the base on stable ground and arrange the hose so it does not pull the sprinkler sideways. Check the instructions for the actual controls on your version. Make a first adjustment with the supply off, run the sprinkler, then observe a full sweep before changing anything else.
Adjust width and reach separately so you can see what each change does. Water pressure and flow affect performance, but raising pressure beyond the equipment’s limits is not a way to obtain extra coverage. If performance is unexpectedly weak, first check the hose for kinks, the connection for leaks and whether other outlets are running.
Water touching the far edge is not proof of even application throughout the rectangle. Inspect the center and edges, and look for persistently dry areas as well as puddles. Reposition or reduce the watering interval if the setup creates runoff. Base watering duration on the planting and soil, not on the sprinkler’s maximum area rating.
Hose fittings and timers
Confirm the connector supplied with your unit and whether it suits the hose system used in your country. A photograph of a quick connector does not establish which threaded fitting or adapter comes with a secondhand or imported sprinkler. Ask for the full article number and a clear view of the inlet if the listing is unclear.
The sprinkler’s pattern controls are not an automatic watering schedule. Runtime is controlled at the supply, manually or through a separate compatible timer. If you add a timer, check the complete connection for leaks and confirm that it shuts the water off as intended.
Maintenance and an older unit’s condition
Inspect the housing, inlet, spray outlets and adjustment controls before use. A sprinkler that has spent years outdoors may need attention even if its packaging looks intact. Follow the matching instructions for cleaning rather than enlarging nozzle holes or dismantling the drive mechanism without guidance.
Check the model number when ordering parts. A replacement described simply as “Aquazoom” may belong to another generation. Drain and store the sprinkler according to the manufacturer’s directions, protecting it from freezing and accidental damage by mowing equipment.
Warranty, price and durability
Do not rely on the former blanket claim of a twelve-month parts-and-labor warranty. The applicable terms depend on the purchase, country, seller and product version. For old stock or a used unit, establish what support is actually available before paying.
This guide does not establish a failure rate or current value ranking. Plastic construction alone does not prove poor durability, and a higher price does not prove longer life. Condition, correct operation, parts availability and return terms are more useful checks than old review counts or unattributed quotations.
Practical advantages and limitations
The attraction is a rectangular pattern with more adjustment than a fixed spray. The tradeoffs are the need to match the dimensions to the yard, observe the pattern under your own water supply, and confirm support for a discontinued model. Adjustable coverage can reduce unwanted spray, but it does not itself establish a water-saving result.
