Best Features
Item Specifics
The Hunter 59135 Key Biscayne 54″ Weathered Zinc Ceiling Fan delivers ultra-powerful air movement with whisper-quiet performance. The reversible motor allows you to change the direction of your fan as the season changes. The downdraft mode works best in the summer and the updraft mode will blow warm air during the winter. It has 5 burnished grey pine blades. This outdoor ceiling fan has a 13 degree blade pitch optimized to ensure perfect air movement and peak performance. 2" and 3" downrods are included to ensure proper distance from the ceiling, which means more air movement. This outdoor ceiling fan is ETL damp rated for covered porches, patios and sunrooms. It can also be used in damp rooms, such as washing rooms and bathrooms. There is an included pull chain which allows you to easily turn the fan off and on, or change the speed. This outdoor ceiling fan has a limited lifetime motor warranty that is backed by the company.
Pull Chain Allows You to Turn on Fan
The pull chain allows you to turn on the fan and light. Keep in mind that the pull chains are short, so you may need to add on some chain if you can't reach it. Overall, the pull chain got good feedback. Here is what one customer had to say, " You can change the speeds with the pull chain and there is a reverse switch on the side. It spins amazingly balanced on high and I didn't use any of the balancer kit. Very happy with this fan so far!"
Lighting Is Dim
Multiple customers commented that the light was dim. Some customers exchanged the included bulbs for LED bulbs, but even then the light wasn't too bright. One customer explained, "I bought this light for my family room. Like many of the other reviews the light is low even with LED bulbs in it. The glass bowl is very thick and impedes the amount of light going through. But the appearance is great with the industrial look. I will just add a lamp or two in the room."
Blades Are Treated with an Anti-static Agent to Resist Dust
The description does not mention it, but according to a customer the blades are treated with an anti-static agent to resist dust. This makes cleaning the ceiling fan much easier because it resists dust. Here is what one customer had to say about this nice feature, "Another nice feature, which is not mentioned in the description, is that the blades are treated with an anti-static agent to resist dust...We would definitely buy the Hunter brand again."
No Remote Control
This outdoor ceiling fan does not come with a remote control. However, you can use a different Hunter ceiling fan remote control with this product. A customer had this to say, "It's nice and quiet and it was easy to sync up with the universal remote we had for the old fan."
Great Price
The Hunter 59135 Key Biscayne 54" Weathered Zinc Ceiling Fan has a great price compared to other $300 or $500 ceiling fans. Although there weren't many comments left about the price, this great price should definitely be noted. One customer shared this, "For this price point this fan/light is far nicer than anything else I could find for our covered porch. 30 minutes to assemble and install by myself. Very easy to follow instructions."
You Have to Take the Light Cover off In Order for You to Get to the Reverse Switch
In order for you to get to the reverse switch, you will have to take the light cover off. This can be a problem for those with a tall ceiling that requires a ladder in order for you to reverse the blades. One customer explained, "The light cover has to be taken off with a screwdriver to change the bulbs or to access the switch that reverses the fan. The bulbs are CF and are going to last awhile so I have no problem with using a screwdriver to get at them but the switch being under that glass is really annoying. This guarantees that I'm going to be getting up on a ladder and removing the dome at least twice a year to change the fan direction. If we get a warm spell followed by a cold spell in March then I'll be up there more often, I guess."
Great Air Flow
This outdoor ceiling fan has great air flow according to customers. Although it has 5 blades (the more blades, the slower it moves), this didn't seem to be a problem for this fan. It still circulated air well and cooled down homes and patios. Here is what one customer had to say, "The fan works flawlessly! At it's highest setting, it's pretty quiet and would fade into background noise quickly. And it moves air very well. On an 86-degree day in a room with poor air conditioning, turning on the fan immediately made the room feel cooler (probably by helping to circulate what little AC reached the room."
Blades Can Hit the Light Cover If Installed Incorrectly
If you happen to install this outdoor ceiling fan incorrectly, the fan won't work. This is because the blades will hit the light cover if the blades are installed wrong. Many customers have dealt with this problem. According to customers, the directions should tell you how to install it properly. Otherwise, make sure you mount the unfinished side of the blade facing up. The other nice looking side will face down. That way, you will avoid making the mistake that many other customers made. This customer explained, "If you mount the blade brackets to the blades the way that looks correct, the blades will rub against the light housing. Mount them with the unfinished metal side up. Judging by the other recent reviews I was not first one to make this mistake. If you look closely at the directions it shows it correctly, but who looks at those?"
Nice Rustic Look
Customers liked the look of this fan, both indoors and outdoors. According to customers, it looked better outdoors, but if you have a wood styled home this may look nice indoors too. Here is what one customer commented, "The fan does look nice. The rustic blades and lamp are very attractive for our room. It does strike me as more of an outdoors-style fan, but it doesn't look completely out of place inside. For the room we're in (8-ft ceilings), it's probably hangs a little too low, even on it's shortest downrod option. But we're keeping it because it works great otherwise."
May Come with Screws of Different Sizes
Customers commented that this outdoor ceiling fan arrived with a mixture of screws. Some of the screws did not work with the fan. A lot of customers had to drive to the hardware store to get correct sized screws. If you purchase this ceiling fan, be prepared to do that as well. This customer explained, "Some of the screws that were provided were the wrong size and therefore assembly of the unit was not possible without a trip to the hardware store to purchase the missing screws."
Easy to Install
The Hunter 59135 Key Biscayne 54" Weathered Zinc Ceiling Fan is easy to install. Customers commented that the directions were pretty easy to follow. Here is one of the comments left by a customer, "The installation process was fast an easy. As someone who is pretty familiar with fan & light installation, it went up without any problems just by following the instructions closely. If you know how to follow directions, then this should be easy for just about anyone. I will say, I was working under pretty ideal conditions: brand new, fan-grade electrical box, with plenty of wire."
