One of the simplest elevated garden bed plans we’ve prepared for you today, this one takes little time and effort to complete. All you need to do is build some wooden boxes and place them wherever you see fit in your garden. The great thing about this design is that you can personalize it as you wish. You can make the boxes big or small, depending on what you’re thinking of planting in them. You could also choose to leave the wood as it is, or paint over it if you’re interested in a more colorful garden.
In terms of the type of wood you should use, we recommend redwood, since it’s entirely free of toxins. This is especially true if you want to grow vegetables and make sure they’re edible. If you’re building the boxes for growing flowers, you can also use other types of wood. Other than that, feel free to make this design unique. Adapt it to your preferences and the landscape in your garden or backyard.
2. Tiered Garden Bed

All you have to do to build it is take some pieces of sheet iron and bend them until you get a relatively perfect circle. Don’t worry if the circle isn’t perfect. This is quite hard to achieve given the material and the circumstances. Then, secure the sheet into the ground, mark off the place where you want to place the second sheet, fill the first tier with soil, add the next sheet, and so on. The length of the process depends on how many tiers you want the garden bed to have. 3. Bamboo Towers
If the name of this raised garden bed design sounds exotic, wait until you hear how it’s made. Although we thought of recommending this with one specific type of plant in mind, potatoes, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it for other plants as well. The reason why potatoes would grow great here is that they wouldn’t sprawl all over the ground and cover large areas of land. They would grow upwards instead.
Now, on to what you need to get in order to actually build this garden bed, the design requires some galvanized metal mesh (just like the one from Origin Point that you can find here), some rebars (such as the one you can purchase here), and bamboo screening (that you can order right here). First, you’re going to take the metal mesh and curve it until you form some cylinders. The height and diameter of the cylinders are completely up to you. Even so, we recommend 4-foot tall and 18-inch diameter ones. Then, after you’ve used the rebars to secure them in place, you’re going to take the bamboo screening and cover the cylinders.
We think the design looks particularly interesting and unique, so you should definitely consider replicating it in your garden. Once the plants grow, you’ll have to keep adding compost and straw around them. Just make sure the top leaves are still exposed. As you can see from the image above, the potato plants look great in their bamboo towers.
4. Stone-Lined Raised Garden Bed
If you really don’t want to spend any time on raised garden bed designs, you should consider this one. It doesn’t involve any actual building, just the stacking of some rocks on top of each other. Out of all the raised garden bed designs we’ve discussed up until now, this isn’t only the simplest to complete, but also the cheapest. That’s because most people can find rocks in their garden or backyard, or around the general area where they live. That being said, once you’ve collected the rocks, simply place them together as you see fit. Form the garden bed in any shape you want.
As you might be able to tell, this raised garden bed won’t be as tall as the others. This means that it won’t help you with comfortability that much. For instance, you’ll still have to bend down to tend to your plants. However, if the reason why you want to use raised garden bed gardening is that your plants need a different type of soil than what you have in your garden, this design can 100 percent help you with that. Also, if you’re someone who’s into rustic landscapes, you’re probably going to love the way this garden bed looks in your garden.
