They need regular watering and they grow tall and are a beautiful crop. I am blessed to provide a home for them. For the past two years or so, I have planted various seeds in my NW Oregon backyard. Those that thrived outdoors so far with regular watering are: holy basil, red potato (grown from leftover groceries), mint, foxglove, pea (climbing), tobacco (but tiny leaves more of a decoration than an expectation of herb I can use), rosemary. I hope to continue to extend this outdoor herb garden with more culinary and medicinal herbs as time goes on.
Just having the holy basil dominate the patch is a kind of tall sea of green that is lovely to look at. It creates a kind of vibrational buffer, a psychic cleansing area of sorts, which is one reason I had planted corn 2 years ago (which failed). The endless droning of the skill saws, the yipping of the Chihuahuas, even the air-traffic are filtered through many proud slender green stalks.
So this tall (5-6 feet) plant, stands up straight with its little roots, has a tough hollow stalk, which bends graciously to the gardener's slight touch, offering itself for medicinal tea. The stalks grouped themselves together in little tribal clumps. I recall planting them in one place, but they regrouped somehow taking up the whole rectangular space and then re-grouping in little "family" units. When I harvest the "tea" I take no more than one stalk from each group, and replace the root. Soil should be wet not muddy not dry. This is one of the most rewarding seed packet purchases so far, I am not surprised Seeds of Change is sold out. I hope to see more Seeds of Change no GMO seeds for sale here very soon. Blessings & 1♥
In Thailand, they use Thai Holy Basil, which can be purchased here:
Herb Basil Holy Tulsi Krishna, Ocimum sanctum 50 Organic Heirloom Seeds by Horizon Herbs - Sold by David's Garden Seeds
It might be more expensive than these seeds, but if it becomes what is pictured, it is authentic Thai Basil, or what they call "kapow" in Thailand.
