3 New Year’s Resolutions for a More Organized House

Each year people vow to make themselves a better person when the New Year comes. They vow to eat healthier, exercise and read more. The sad thing is, that most New Year’s resolutions have stopped in their tracks by mid-February to early March. Change is hard. Especially if the change you want to make requires daily, significant efforts. Trying to change yourself is hard enough, but trying to make changes around the house can be even harder. People want to be comfortable in their own home so changing it is extremely uncomfortable. However, if you want to make some changes around your home it is possible. It might be difficult, but you can have a new organized and decluttered house as part of your New Year’s resolutions. Here are 3 New Year’s resolutions for a more organized house.

New Year’s Resolutions for an Organized House

After Christmas Cleaning

When Christmas is over, it’s a good time to get rid of the old and make way for the new. Chances are your family received some new toys or new clothes as part of their Christmas gifts. Don’t just cram all the new stuff in with all the old toys and clothes. As you’re putting away your new things, go through the old. Donate outgrown clothes and toys that are no longer played with. This will set you up for a year full of organization with less clutter. Although after Christmas cleaning isn’t technically in the New Year, you can start getting used to a more organized house by starting right after Christmas. Maybe even make after Christmas cleaning part of your New Year’s resolutions for the next year.

Have a Spot for Everything

Your house can be free of mud and dirt, but it can still look dirty if there are piles of toys and random objects on the table and countertops. Have a spot for everything. Make some New Year’s resolutions to create a spot for everything if you don’t already have one. Make a toy box, have a junk drawer for random objects, and get storage bins for organized storage of things you don’t plan on using until the next year. This will ensure that you have clear countertops with plenty of room for food and food preparation, instead of random objects and useless clutter.

Create a Weekly Cleaning Plan

It’s hard to catch up if you get behind on housework. Everything can pile up and you might feel like you have a million things to do. As part of your New Year’s resolutions to keep your house more organized, create a weekly cleaning plan. Things like doing dishes should be done daily so that a huge pile of dishes doesn’t start to develop. However, things like dusting and vacuuming can be done a little less often. Making a plan will help you stay on top of the work, making it easier for your house to look good.

Summing Up

These New Year’s resolutions will help you create a more organized home that you will love to be in. You won’t feel overwhelmed whenever you walk into your house and you’ll feel like you can breathe easy. You will have clear counters, no clutter, and everything will have a designated spot. Try these New Year’s resolutions if you want to make a change in your house and see the effect it can take on everyone living in it.
