There is no right or wrong way to get out and spend time outdoors. Camping doesn’t need to be difficult or expensive. We have compiled a list of 4 easy ways you can go family camping this summer. There is something for everyone! What are you waiting for?

Tent Camping

When most people picture camping, they picture tent camping. Tent camping, sometimes called car camping, is the easiest and most basic form of camping. It typically involves packing your gear into your car, and driving to a campsite. You can then pitch your tent and set up camp. Many campsites even have access to running water and toilets. Tent camping is great for families because you can sleep in a tent, roast marshmallows over a fire pit, and play in nature with minimal gear or previous camping knowledge. This is also the best way to camp on a budget.  If tent camping sounds like the type of family camping you would enjoy, start planning your trip early. Some campgrounds start booking up up to six months in advance!

Backpacking

If your family has done tent camping and you are looking to push your boundaries, you should try backpacking. Backpacking has a lot of the same aspects of tent camping. However, instead of having the luxury of storing supplies and gear in your car. Instead you carry everything you need in your backpack. This means you will need to invest in a backpack, and ultra lightweight camping gear. There is no running water in the wilderness, so you should also plan on packing some type of water filter. However, because you aren’t tied down to a specific campsite, you can go hiking in the back country. This allows you to be far away from civilization and gives you more of a sense of “roughing it”. This style of family camping does involve a little more planning and requires a little more experience.

RV/Trailer Camping

If sleeping in a tent does not appeal to you, your family could always try camping in an RV or trailer. Camping in an RV is a great way to combine the comforts of home with the outdoors. Most RVs will have beds, a small kitchen, and a bathroom inside the vehicle. You can camp at any campground with designated RV camping. This makes RVs a really good choice for extended family camping. You may want to consider camping in an RV when you are taking a cross country road trip or if you have family members who are not comfortable sleeping on the ground.

Glamping

Glamping is a fairly new style of family camping. It is a lot like tent camping, but with many more amenities and comforts. For one, the tent is usually much nicer than a typical pop-up tent. When you are glamping you are usually staying in some sort of yurt, lodge, or large canvas tent. Usually you have a bed, small kitchen area, heating and electricity inside your tent. The second difference between glamping and tent camping is the location. Glamping tends to be in much more exotic locations. Most glamping expeditions take you to the rain forest, a private beach, to the top of a mountain, or to the African plains. So while glamping may be a luxurious family camping option, it is by far the most expensive.

In Conclusion

It doesn’t matter if you want to tough it out in the middle of nowhere, or glamp it up on a private beach, there is a style of family camping for everyone. With a bit of research and planning, your family will be camping in no time! Use the time outdoors to make some happy memories with your family, and don’t forget to make a few treats over your campfire!
