Item Specifics

The Hopkins Ice Scraper features a durable blade to remove frost. It has separated ice chippers to break up the thickest ice. The extra wide 4.5″ blade allows this ice scraper to quickly scrape ice off of your vehicle. The oval-shaped, soft foam grip provides maximum comfort as you use the Hopkins Ice Scraper. This ice scraper features an 11″ length that provides great reach.

Nice Combo of Blade and Claw

Customers commented on how The Hopkins Ice Scraper worked well because it had a claw part and a blade. One person said, “We had a snow storm come through a few days ago & I woke up to iced over windows. I used claw part and started to rip into it, then I flipped the blade scraper part and cleaned the windows clean of ice. I was pretty amazed at how quick I took this ice off. This wasn’t real thick but I’m pretty confident it’ll eat through thick ice. For the price of this winter tool, you really can’t go wrong, and it’ll sure make things easier on those cold mornings with the wind blowing & freezing out.”

Handle A Bit Small But Cushioned Well

Just by looking at the photo of this ice scraper you can see that the handle is very small. Some people wished it were bigger. But most felt with the foam that it was comfortable. One customer said, “The foam handle is nicely cushioned but the oval handle shape is too flat and wide for gripping without getting muscle fatigue. I’d like a round handle but the RevHeads brand isn’t available. The low profile scoop will be good for getting underneath the windshield wipers, as well as fitting inside a door pocket. I use a medium grit nail file on the scraping edge to smooth any slight irregularities.”

Efficient and Fast

When it’s cold out, the last thing most people want is to be outside scraping a vehicle window any longer than necessary. The Hopkins Ice Scraper had good reports of it being fast and efficient to use. Here is just one of those comments, “Just used it this morning. Like some others have said, it scrapes through the ice on your window like a knife through butter. I already had an ice scraper/brush combo that was mildly effective but this thing just blows it out of the water. It normally takes like 15 minutes to scrape the ice off my car because I would have to wait until the engine warmed up to start scraping (otherwise it was really difficult, almost impossible) but today I was able to scrape all the ice off my windshield and windows in less than 5 minutes. I would definitely recommend this tool to anyone that lives in colder areas because the price/performance ratio is on point.”

Not Good With Heavy Ice

If you live in an area with a lot of thick ice and often, you may want to consider a heavier duty ice scraper. A customer explained, “This ice scraper works okay, but it’s not heavy duty. I live in the South (USA), and most mornings in the winter I have a thin coat of ice on my windshield. This scraper will get most of it, but you have to push pretty hard. I would not recommend it to anyone living in the north, where you’d have thicker ice more often. I also have to ‘choke up’ on the handle a lot; the plastic is not strong enough to hold it at the end and still have enough force to scrape off ice. I have to reach pretty hard to get to the middle of my windshield, and it’s a good workout to get my windshield clean. At least it warms me up, but it doesn’t speak well to the quality of this ice scraper. You could do worse, but you could do better, too.”

Lightweight and Compact

At only 1.6 ounces and with dimensions of 11.6 x 4.6 x 0.9 inches the Hopkins Subzero Ice Scraper is compact enough to keep in your vehicle at all times. A customer wrote, “It is also compact enough to leave in a car kit at all times- snow or no snow. The ice of our freezer was really built on thick and a pain when we had to move racks, and this little puppy went through it like it was nothing. I am very pleased with this purchase and I think it will work wonders for when our frosted windows season starts again next year!”

Handle Has Thermal Properties

The nice thing about the handle on this Hopkins Ice Scraper is that it is soft and not hard. The soft foam handle helps to insulate you from touching a cold and hard surface. A customer explained, “The grip on the handle is pretty soft and seems like it has some thermal properties, so it’s not as cold as the hard plastic, making it easier on the hands.”

Great Price

If you are wanting an inexpensive ice scraper that is decent in doing its job, this is it. Keep in mind it’s not top of the line but for small ice jobs, it should work fine. A customer commented, “This ice scraper is great! I didn’t expect much from it since it was so reasonably priced, but it’s a pretty solid product! I live in Georgia so we don’t get a ton of winter weather, but I still have to scrape the ice off of my windshield in the mornings during the winter since I have to leave so early for work. This product is bigger than expected and it has a comfortable handle. The smaller end seems like it would be great for breaking up thicker chunks of ice and snow, but this isn’t an issue I have encountered. It takes maybe a minute to scrape a thin layer of ice off my windshield. I would recommend this product for your ice scraping needs, especially if you live in a generally warmer climate.”

Good Reach But Not Long Enough For Some

The Hopkins Ice Scraper has an 11-inch reach. That is longer than many ice scrapers but not long enough if you have a wide vehicle with high glass. Of course a lot will depend on your height and arm length. If you are shorter with short arm length, you may want to go with a longer handled ice scraper. One customer had this to say about the reach, “As a native Texan, I have had little need for an ice scraper in my life. I recently moved to an area where this purchase became very relevant due to the awful winter we’ve been having, and I am very grateful for this tool. It’s effective and easy to use. I only wish it were a bit longer. At 5’6″ with a Toyota Prius (not a huge car by any means, but a little taller than the average sedan) to clear, I’m making a bit of a stretch to get across the whole windshield, often resulting in leaning on a very cold car. But for the price, this is definitely worth it. And even though my primary complaint is that it’s short, that is also a plus because it is unobtrusive while being stored.”

Hopkins Subzero Ice Scraper Conclusion

The Hopkins Ice Scraper features a blade to remove frost with separated ice chippers to break up ice. The blade is 4.5 inches wide. The oval-shaped, soft foam grip is soft and comfortable but some people wished that the handle was wider for more comfort.  The length of the ice scraper is 11 inches.  This isn’t a heavy duty ice scraper, so if you have frequent thick ice, you may want to go with a stronger ice scraper. But for light ice, this one should work great. Overall, for the price, this is a great buy for what you get.
