Common Questions

Here are some top questions that I found for people considering buying the Roots Organics ROD75 Potting Soil.

  • chevron-circle-right Can I grow plants in the bag it comes in? Does it have holes for drainage or do I need to create them?  Yes, this bag has holes for drainage.  However, it is not recommended to grow plants directly in the bag.
  • chevron-circle-right Do I need to add fertilizer to this potting soil after I place my 5 week old sprouted vegetable seedlings in it?  Adding fertilizer is not necessary.  However, it doesn’t hurt to add compost tea.  Compost tea is non burning, safe on young sprouts, and adds a lot of beneficial bacteria and living microorganisms that protect, break down other nutrients, and increase the root system.  You can find compost tea recipes online.
  • chevron-circle-right What is the pH level of this soil?  The pH level on this soil is 6.5.

  1. The quality of EcoScraps apparently varies by region. I live in N Carolina and the bags of compost I just bought had a lot of woody material in them. Very disappointed.
