Item Specifics

The GreenWorks Corded Tiller is a powerful 8 Amp Motor that has an easy electric start.  With electric there is no need to mix gas and take care of recoil cords.  There are four 8 inch rotating tines that dig into the soil when tilling.  It has an adjustable tilling width of 8.25 to 10 inches that you can choose from each time you till.  There is also an adjustable tilling depth of up to 5 inches that offers the versatility to dig for the right planting depth.  The handle folds down for simple and convenient storage and transport.

The dimensions of the GreenWorks Corded Tiller is 33 x 15 x 15 inches with a weight of 29.3 pounds.

Lightweight

The GreenWorks Corded Tiller weighs only 29.3 pounds.  Because this a compact and lightweight tiller, there are reports of it hopping a bit.  It is going to be easy to handle though because it is not a big and heavy tiller.  With a lightweight tiller like this, it will be easy to store in a shed or garage.  It’s also going to be very easy to transport.  For example, a healthy adult can lift it into the back of truck bed without help.

An elderly man had this to say about the weight of this tiller, “This tiller is just the ticket for an 81 year old man. It does the job of mixing my mulch into the soil and can be lifted into the raised garden with ease, yet it tills the soil to the depth that I need to plant my garden. My only regret is that I didn’t buy it sooner and get my garden started a month earlier while waiting for a neighbor’s help with an old tiller that was more that I could handle.”

Not Made for Cutting Through Sod

Being a lightweight and inexpensive tiller, the GreenWorks Corded Tiller simply is not made to cut through sod.  With that being said though, some customers did use it on sod with good results.  One commented this, “What used to be 4 hours of backbreaking toil and sweat to dig up gardens and bust up the clods, was easily done in less than 40 minutes. And, done far better than my shovel and fork. The tiller is not recommended for cutting through sod but I didn’t listen to them…I cut through sod like butter and chopped up the roots for easy raking out of the bed. I expanded the garden bed into lawn without any difficulty. I wish I had it years ago. Very well made and does a great job.”

Price

The price of this tiller really can’t be beat.  It is not a heavy duty tiller but it is powerful for the compact size.  Many of the customers who purchased this tiller bought it for the price and were more than pleased with the results.

Quiet Operation

A nice thing about electric tillers over gas tillers, is that in general they are much more quiet.  The GreenWorks Corded Tiller is no exception.  Customers liked it for how quiet it was.  Being quiet means that if you have close neighbors, you can till at any hour of the day.  Some of the gas tillers can be very loud and may wake sleeping neighbors if you like to till at the crack of dawn.  Here is what one customer had to say about how quiet the GreenWorks Corded Tiller runs along with some other insights about the product.  She said, “Quiet operation – easy to assemble. Small size allows for easy tilling around plants. No gas cans or expensive maintenance checks – simply plug in and it is ready to go.”

Better for the Environment Over Gas Powered

An electric tiller will not emit the fumes into the air that a gas tiller will.  It also will not cause noise pollution.  In addition to not needing gas, you will not need oil.  A side benefit is that it is going to also be much easier to maintain than a gas powered tiller.  This tiller is practically maintenance-free.

The GreenWorks Corded Tiller is a low priced, corded tiller.  It is lightweight and going to be easy for most adults to handle.  Because of the lightweight nature, it will jump a little, but a bonus is that you will be able to handle it much easier than a heavy weight tiller.  This tiller is not made to break through sod, though many customers were successful at getting it to cut through sod with no problem.  It is better for the environment than a gas powered tiller and it is quieter too, which will give you more options on when you want to till if you have close neighbors.  If you are looking for a lightweight and inexpensive tiller, than I recommend the GreenWorks Corded Tiller.  The majority of customers who used it were very happy with it.

Common Questions

Here are some top questions that I found for people considering buying a GreenWorks Corded Tiller.

  • chevron-circle-right I purchased one of these. After assembly I have two cotter pins left over. Did I miss where these go?  The reason that they supplied two cotter pins is you can not use the round ones if you wish to till with just two tiller blades rather than four.  Then you need to use the long cotter pins.
  • chevron-circle-right Should this work in packed rocky ground?  The ground is a river bed, and it takes 45 minutes to dig a hole for a tree about 18 inches deep.  This tiller is designed for tilling, turning and aerating soil. It can be used in areas that have some stones or pebbles, not rocks, rocks will damage the unit very quickly.
  • chevron-circle-right What is the manufacturers warranty period?  The warranty for this unit is four years from the date of purchase.
